At Matthew Douglas, we are passionate about giving back to our community and raising money for those most in need.

Every year, we aim to raise a set amount of money for good causes. In 2023, this target was set at £10,000 – and we are proud to say that we reached (and beat!) this target, raising over £12,000 throughout the year.

For 2024, we hope to raise another £10,000.

Here’s just some of our recent fundraising activities

Mind Suffolk

£6,700

raised for Suffolk Mind through our Christmas hamper initiative

The value of our yearly Christmas hampers was donated on behalf of our clients, to give back to those most in need.

As part of our initiative, we chose to support a meaningful, impactful cause close to our hearts – mental health charity, Suffolk Mind.

Julie Long, Fundraising Manager at Suffolk Mind, said:

“Firstly, I’d like to say how thrilled we are with the support from Matthew Douglas Ltd. This will make a huge difference – thank you so much to all of you, and your clients too.

“What we raise stays 100% in Suffolk to support the fantastic community we live in. Our target this year was to raise £14,000 to support fully-funded mental health education and training for schools in Suffolk – which we have already managed to achieve!”

Suffolks Emergency Medical Charity

£5,156

raised for SARS, from Ironman & Hampers in 2022/23

The full team here at Matthew Douglas Ltd participated in an Ironman challenge to raise valuable funds for SARS – Suffolk’s Emergency Medical Charity.

We also chose SARS as recipients of our Christmas hamper initiative in 2022, where our clients could pledge to donate the value of their hamper to the charity.

SARS provides specialist clinicians to assist the East of England Ambulance Service at the scenes of incidents where patients require an enhanced level of medical care before they reach hospital.

MS-UK Logo

£1,342

raised for MS-UK, from the Big Purple Games

We attended a knockout-style event hosted at Colchester Rugby Club, alongside eight other local businesses – all raising money for MS-UK. Our clients and members of the public sponsored us, with all money going to support the charity.

MS-UK does incredible work to help people who have been affected by MS (Multiple Sclerosis) so they can live happier and healthier lives. MS-UK supports anyone who is affected by MS, on every step of their journey – relying completely on the generosity of donations to deliver their services.

Action Medical Research Logo

£2,810

raised for Action Medical Research in 2021

Our team completed three incredible challenges to raise funds for Action Medical Research, by taking part in their ‘Race the Sun event’ in 2021. This included cycling, hiking and canoeing in the Lake District from dawn till dusk, in a triathlon-style event – read more about it here.

In a race against the sun, and each other, teams compete to bike, hike and paddle in a one-day challenge – with money raised going towards life-saving research for children and babies.

Samaritans Logo

£1,000

raised by completing Park Run in aid of Samaritans, 2021 and 2022

The team at Matthew Douglas completed two Park Runs in aid of Samaritans, raising an incredible £1000 in both 2021 and 2022.

Samaritans is an incredible, unique charity that is dedicated to help to reduce feelings of isolation and disconnection, that can lead to suicide. Every ten seconds, the charity responds to a call for help.

They work to give people ways to cope, and the skills to be there for others – offering listening and support to people and communities in times of need.

Community Support

As well as supporting many charities, we strive to support our local community in any way we can.

To do this, we’ve developed several fantastic partnerships with neighbouring organisations, such as schools and sports teams. Here are just some examples of the work we’re currently doing.

Colchester Rugby

We are thrilled to be able to support Colchester Rugby Club as the main sponsors of the club’s youth boys section, having been sponsors of the club for the past decade.

As a sponsor, we actively support the club with events, as well as having a regular presence at tournaments and on match days.

The club has been a large part of many of our lives, with three of the Matthew Douglas team (including our Managing Director, Matthew) all playing at the club at some point throughout their sporting careers.

We believe that sport plays a great role in promoting and sustaining good health. It also provides young people with the opportunities to develop leadership skills, work as part of a team, and develop patience and discipline, not to mention a sense of friendly competition, which can be transferred into many areas of life.

Hadliegh High School Logo
Hadliegh High School

As a proudly Hadleigh-based business, Matthew Douglas wanted to support our local school in the career development of its students.

To do this, we regularly attend careers days, as well as help to participate in mock interview days for the older students who are preparing for the world of work.

Similarly to students from Ipswich School, we also provide individuals with the chance to complete work experience placements during the summer holidays, and look forward to continuing this scheme for years to come.

Four of our team members at Matthew Douglas previously attended Ipswich School (Oliver, Thomas, Joshua & Harry), and so we like to play a large role in giving back to the school.

The Matthew Douglas team regularly attend the school’s careers evenings, and regularly offer several students the chance to complete work experience during the summer holidays. As part of the scheme, students have access to the full advice cycle – from working in administration, to sitting in on real-life client meetings after obtaining the clients’ permission.
